Official guidance
Intended to reduce the likelihood of musculoskeletal injury during more rigorous physical training such as the AFT.
ATP 7-22.02, para. 3-1, p. 3-1 (opens the official PDF)Leaders call cadence at a slow (50 counts per minute) or moderate (80 counts per minute) pace.
ATP 7-22.02, para. 1-17, p. 1-7 (opens the official PDF)Soldiers return to the Position of Attention between exercises. Cadence stays the same so there is time for the full range of motion; leaders may keep the time between exercises short.
ATP 7-22.02, para. 1-19, p. 1-7 (opens the official PDF)The drill may be shortened with fewer repetitions, fewer exercises, or substitutions when time is short, for special conditioning, or when the session targets one component such as power.
